Today we are back looking for a nice walk to do, we are heading for the mountains.
Italy
Heading south, ruins everywhere
We leave Amalfi heading south. To be honest, the next few days are infill, just getting to Sicily where the fun would really start. But first we have some residual ruins to see.
The first out of four
I have always been passionate about natural phenomenon, such as earthquakes and volcanoes. They remind us how small, insignificant and vulnerable human beings are. They remind us that we are not the centre of this universe, as much we would like to be.
What a difference latitude makes!
Napoli could be a different country, a few hundred kilometres from Roma but a world apart and be warned, this post contains X rated material of a sexually explicit nature, and a goat.
Hercolaneum- Never heard of it, have you?
Pompei wasn’t the only town destroyed by the Vesuvio’s eruption. Another town was actually burnt and buried by the volcano before Pompei: Hercolaneum. We’d never heard of it.
Up Pompeii
Strange, isn’t it, how a place can take you back to your childhood.
Desperate for some activity
We really enjoyed our cultural experience in Rome but we now feel a bit sluggish due to lack of energetic activity. Our bodies are desperate for some power trekking and fresh air from the countryside. So, we have decided to stop in a natural park south of Rome before our next cultural tour around Naples, Pompei and Hercolaneum.
The popes message; Respect my religion or expect a punch
Although the beauty of the Vatican cannot be overstated, my problem is the criminal corporation that sits behind it.
Three days are not enough
Let’s face it, we couldn’t do Rome in just three days. So today we are going to cover the sites we haven’t had the time to see yet. Most of which are outdoors, all free (well we had already bought tickets for them GDR) , all different, all interesting.
Museo of a thousand virgins
After the spectacular basilica we headed off to the museo.
