It is strange what captures the imagination of travel guidebook writers, ours were transfixed by a ferry journey up a river, we didn’t quite know what to expect.
Mountains
One day it is gonna happen
After our climb to Gamila we took a nice rest day yesterday doing some bridge spotting around Zagori. We are now fully recovered and ready for our next walk around the village of Vradheto, north of Zagori Park.
Only 10 minutes from the top but, who cares?
We had a beautiful walk along the Vikos gorge yesterday. Although it was still quite long (5 hours), it was fairly easy and relatively flat, as most walks along a river tend to be. So today we are looking for something a bit more challenging. We are climbing Gamila, the second highest peak of the Timfi mountains (2,497m).
Gorge-ous
Today we had planned the classic walk of the area: 16 kms down the Vikos gorge. We are always a little sceptical of these ‘popular’ walks, can they live up to expectation?
Back where we belong
We have been looking forward to this for a while, and with the problems of Dora behind us, we can once again relax in the mountains.
Gambling on a good walk
Just north of Athens lies a national park. After two days of intensive sightseeing and culture, it would be good again to stretch the legs.
Not in a mood for fireworks, but nonetheless fascinating
We leave Vulcano this morning, at 8.00am. We haven’t had time to have coffee and we still have sore bums from cycling. In a normal day, this would be a perfect combination for being moody. But we are going to Stromboli. The trip we have so looked forward to for years. So I embrace the day with a really big smile. Even Gary is impressed.
Etna dominates
She is ever present, always on the horizon. Even when shrouded in cloud Etna dominates.
Monte Pollino remains elusive
Today we are back looking for a nice walk to do, we are heading for the mountains.
Sad bear and lonely wolf
We are heading to Roma, civilisation, well the start of it (sorry Greece). For now more mountains, and some sad wildlife.
