This is Guisando. A village located in the province of Avila in Spain. It is 20 kilometres from my home town, Talavera de La Reina.
I used to spend my summers in this village when I was little and since then, I have been very fond of it. When Gary visited it in 2003, he fell in love with it and 6 months later we bought a house.
With a population of no higher than 1,000 habitants in high season, Guisando is the best place for us to relax and disconnect from our hectic lives in London.
It sits in a valley surrounded by the Cabeza de Arbillas, Cabeza del Cobacho and Collado Guayerbas, which protect it from the mountain winds of winter and the heat of the summer.
Its clean and white houses pleasantly surprise everybody who stops by.
One of its greatest features is the stream Covacho which divides the village in two, bathing its houses and its surroundings.
La Mira, one of the highest mountains of the Sierra de Gredos (2,343 metres), stands erect in the background.
Ocassionally, when climbing to the summit, Gary and I have spotted the Cabra Montesa de Gredos, a unique and indigenous species to these mountains .
We appreciate that my parents, my brother and Nuria come to spend time with us in Guisando. It means a lot to us.
Spending quality time with them playing futbolin, a popular game in Spain 😉
We addictive to padel but unfortunately, we don’t have many opportunities to practise in the UK. Likely, Brother and Nuria are very good players . Gary and I hope beating them one day.
